What is a Sun Salutation?  

The Sun Salutation is a flowing sequence of 12 postures that alternately stretch the spine forwards and backwards with coordinated breathing to provide a complete low-impact workout for the body and mind.

Each position counteracts the one before, stretching the body in a different way and alternately expanding and contracting the chest to regulate the breathing.

The Sun Salutation touches most of the major muscle groups in the body, stretching and strengthening the back, stomach, hamstrings, quads, and arm muscles.

It ventilates the lungs and oxygenates the blood, tones up the digestive system, and normalizes the endocrine system. When done at a fast speed it provides a good cardio-vascular workout, whereas when done at a slower pace it feels grounding, meditative, and relaxing.

It can be a complete practice in itself or a preparation for a deeper yoga routine.
